Trek to Mahuli Fort

So after a very long time finally a budget one day trek as local trains in Mumbai resumed services. So speaking about this trek starting from travel , we caught the local train early in the morning and got down at Asangaon station . From Asangaon station you can go to the rickshaw stand and the fixed rate up to the base of Mahuli fort is 250rs. It is around 6.6km from the station and you will reach there in half an hour .

There is enough space for parking your vehicles. As you enter the base you have to take a ticket costing you 30rs . As the climb starts you can view many pinnacles ranging across the plateau. The trek is not short and in the sunny weather you will require lot of water so carry it accordingly. Most of the hard steep climbing is under the shade of the forest and the scenic view from many spots where they have built barriers is very good.

So it would take you around 3 hours to complete this trek and once you reach the top , the actual exploration begins as this is a very vast fort ,you have the Mahadarwaja , the Mahuleshwar temple, the Hanuman Darwaja and many more. Also there is drinking water available so you can cook your own meal and enjoy it in the caves near Mahadarwaja. After resting at Mahadarwaja you can explore the fort but think accordingly as you have to descend and then catch a train to return . I personally visited the Mahadarwaja , the Mahuleshwar temple and the Hanumandarwaja.

We started descending around 2pm and reached the base by 3 or 3:15pm , there we met a local and had non veg lunch just for 150rs and then started walking from the base at around 4pm .We decided to walk the remaining 6.5 km up to the Asangaon railway station. It was a very tough walk as from the climbing and descending our stamina and legs were at the very last stage . Somehow walking for more than 1 hour we reached the station and caught the train by 6:15pm.

Speaking of difficulty level it was not that hard but surely it was a long trek as once you reach the top there is much more to explore there.

There is enough water once you reach up and thanks to the villagers they have well maintained the fort and also all the arrows to reach up are correctly placed. Surely do this one day trek as it can be completed in less than 400rs.
