Sondai Fort Trek

Sondai Fort is a vey simple trek for any experienced trekker, in my opinion one can do this trek even without taking a single stop or break . Avoid going to this fort on weekends and if possible do this fort in the monsoon . As the view from the top is so good and also any 1st time trekker would complete it . We were a group of 8 school friends and had 4 two wheelers with us , the route is pretty easy and good. Simply type Sondai Fort on your google maps and it will take you up to the base of the fort.

Here are some videos of the path leading up to the base....

Once you reach there and park your vehicles , there will be locals asking you to pay for the parking. Don't pay them ask them if you can pay for it once you complete the trek, as the villagers who had shops on the fort told us not to pay them even after completing the trek. So the starting route is not at all hard it goes through a nice small stream and then it starts gaining some elevation.

You can get a clear view of the fort once you cross this path , it is better as the 1st time trekkers will not loose interest and after seeing the top will continue the trek. The second part is crossing a narrow strip that leads you to the base of the ladders , cross this path very carefully as it is slippery during the monsoons. Once you reach the ladders then the top is not even 15 minutes away from you.

You can reach the top of the fort in an hour and if you encounter rains then well and good but if not, still there is a way to have fun in this trek. The top of the fort is not that big of a plateau ,it has a flag and a small temple. Have your snacks there sitting by the shade and then start your descend. The descending part is very easy, also there is another pinnacle near Sondai but we did not find the correct path for it. We reached the base and then on our scooties reached the next best possible place.

There is a small dam ahead on the road of the base but I will suggest not go there as its is packed with people, instead on your way back there is a small fast flowing stream( do'nt go deep into it) where you can relax and have the magnificent view of the fort. It is the best place to relax before returning as we did not encounter rains in this trek , this experienced filled that void for us.

Here is the gpx file of the Sondai fort , it is not required but still if you loose your way it can help you.

Also some videos of the fort from the base....

Open it with the OSMAND app from the f droid store.
