Night trek to Mt.Kalsubai

The highest peak in Maharashtra and also one of the most easiest as it is one of the most famous places in the state ,there are always trekkers here ready to help you and the route is also properly marked . So we started from Mumbai caught the local to Kasara railway station and the St bus up to the base village 'Bari'. Had a nice hot cup of tea at the base and at around 8:30 in the night we started our trek thinking we could reach up by sunrise.

But as night trek turns out even the route being simple due to very less visibility we lost our way in the coming half an hour and then were helped by an old women who showed us the right way. But thank god that was our only wrong turn in this entire trek.

So after getting lost for more than an hour we were back on the right path and continued up to the part where we encountered the ladder section of the trek.

So now we had reached a certain plateau section where we decided to have our dinner, it was around 1am in the night and the temperature drop was significant, but the bhakari and chicken that we had carried from Mumbai was still hot. We somehow had our dinner and though of resting a while as we were close to the peak section and though that we can complete it before the sunrise.

But I warn you if you are doing this trek in winter carry enough warm clothes as from personal experience we started feeling so much cold that we decided not to stop ,as continuing with this trek would keep our bodies warm.

We had thought that since it's a night trek it would take us more time to complete it but we were wrong, at around 3:30am in the morning we had reached the Kalsubai peak , sorry I don't remember the way as it was dark and we somehow reached there without any guide. We thought of resting at the top but it was a bad idea as we were the 1st group to reach and there is no shelter up there leaving aside the temple to cover you from the cold fast breeze up there. Somehow we slept in a small hut that was used as a shop to sell poha and tea but the shopkeeper reached there within half an hour and told us to vacate as he had work to do. So we waited with our blankets on us hoping to see the sunrise in this cold weather.

Here's the time lapse video of sunrise...

You can see the Harishchandragad , AMK ie the Alang Madan Kulang forts from here if the weather is clear enough. We started descending around 8 as there were many people coming up and then the place would be crowded , we reached down to the base swiftly and it was a different experience all along as in the night we could not see all the green and beautiful surroundings Mt Kalsubai had. We had some poha at the base and then said our final goodbye to the highest peak of Maharashtra.
