Ok so this was the 3rd trek after the ease of lockdown and also our 1st camping trip in a while. Speaking of treks the kind of trek that is the hardest according to me are night treks and so coming up with a a plan to complete Garbett at night was a challenge in itself. About travel , we were 6 friends in total started our journey from Ghatkopar, Mumbai with 3 scooties and reached Bhivpuri that is the base by 5 in the evening. After that we parked our vehicle, took parcel food for night and started the trek.
In a few hours of starting the trek we were in complete darkness, the only advantage we had was of the full moon that night.
And as I mentioned earlier why night treks without a local guide is not that easy, we lost our way in the coming hours and were rescued by a villager who showed us the right path, not only that he guided us further by mobile communication. So that's the reason why we avoid night treks, but it's an adventure itself...
Some how we reached the Garbett plateau by 9 pm and started looking for a place to camp.
But due to the lockdown as there were no human activities in the area the grass had grown a lot and there were no plain spots for camping . So we set up our camp on the grass itself.
After this exhausting trek and finally setting up our camp ,we had our dinner and went to sleep by 12. We decided to wake up early in order to witness sunrise from the top. And also had to complete the Garbett point in the morning which is around half hour trek from the plateau.
After completing the Garbett point ,we were really short on water and decided to descend down with only 2 bottles between 6 people.
Descending down we had already emptied our water bottles and were completely exhausted, when we finally found a treasure that was a fast flowing stream, in an instant we decided to have a nice relaxing time in it....
We completed descending down around 12 pm , Had some refreshments at Bhivpuri and returned to Mumbai with our vehicles .
If you are planning for a camp please carry enough water and if possible try to complete the trek before night time.
You can also complete this trek in a single day if you start early or else complete the trek through Bhivpuri and exit from Matheran.
