Morgiri Fort Trek

Morgiri is a fort in Lonavala, so the distance from both Mumbai and Pune is same. I myself completed this trek from the Pune side but the base village is similar for both. This fort does not have any fortifications but it was used as a military base for observing the Pawna region during the Maratha Regime. The route till the base village is quite good, one can easily search Morgiri fort on maps and you will have the way. Just be careful as the map shows an extra 3 kms but the base village will be visible to you before that. Below is the image of the parking space available.

Since this fort is not that known you can even visit it on Sundays or weekends. The difficulty of this trek would be normal but it is really hard during the monsoon.

Starting from the base village, the whole trek can be divided into 4 patches. The 1st patch is easy and not that long, you will reach the next patch within 15 mins here the actual climb begins.

Mostly you will have arrows guiding you but still for safer side I will share the gpx file and the offline route in this blog. The 2nd patch is mostly climbing and you will drain all of your energy here. But as you complete this patch you will have the best view and a nice place to have some rest . As you reach the middle part , this is a plateau that will take you around the mountain and up to the base of the actual fortification.

The 3rd patch that is the plateau region is the best part of this trek. We could'nt see much as we did this trek in the monsoons and the mist there was too thick. You will have your best time walking in the nature here. I will be sharing the videos and pictures of the same here.

While crossing this plateau you will come across various small waterfalls. When this route ends you will find the final patch of this trek, a small ladder is attached here and you have to carefully cross it. Before the ladder you will encounter a left turn from where the final ascend starts, don't miss it. Be careful as the route is vey slippery during the rains, slowly proceed as the top is only 15 minutes away from here.

Once you reach the top you will have a great view.

We encountered rains while descending and the route was way more slippery than usual . We stopped for a nice half an hour and waited for the heavy rains to pass as it was very difficult and no visibility for descending.

Also I am sharing the gpx file and the App below.
